What is Olive Seed?

The olive pit is the natural seed with a hard, woody interior that remains after the olive fruit is separated. While it may seem like waste during olive processing (especially oil production), it is actually a valuable biomass source and is used in many different areas.

What is an Olive Stone?
An olive stone is the solid, woody seed remaining after the pulp is removed from the olive. It is sometimes used with the olive pomace, and sometimes it is separated from the olive pomace.

🔧 Where is it Used?

Fuel / Biomass: Dried and used as pellets or directly as fuel in stoves and boilers. It is high in calories.
Animal Feed Additive: It can be ground and added to some ruminant feeds at low (controlled) rates.
Mulch: In agriculture, it is used in its ground form to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
Industrial Use: Pelletizing, carbonization (biochar), and even in the production of some chemical products.
Cosmetics & R&D: It can be ground and used in natural peeling products and the production of activated carbon.

Advantages of Olive Stones
🔥 Efficient fuel with a high calorific value (approximately 4,500–5,000 kcal/kg)
🌱 Natural and environmentally friendly – recyclable and biodegradable
♻️ Contribution to waste management – olive processing waste is being utilized
💨 Low emissions – burns cleaner than coal
💰 Economical – domestic and inexpensive biofuel source
🧼 Low post-combustion ash content – easy cleaning

⚠️ Things to Consider
Poor quality or very moist stones reduce combustion efficiency
May need to be ground or pelletized for use in some machines
Quality standards are required for industrial use (especially in pellet form)
